Abstract
On the appearance of I^(131) application for the treatment of thyroid diseases, the field of surgical indication seems to be decreased. since the thyroid tumor os well understood that theeI^(131) uptake is either poor within normal limit, although few of them shows hyperthyroidism, recent thyroid surgery in our clinic limited gradually to the goiter which is suspicious of possible malignancy.
41 case of thyroid tumor are operated since july, 1960. and following cilnical observation are considered.
1) Biopsy during operation is paramount importance in order to find the more resonable treatment of thyroid tumor.
2) Complete exposure of thyroid loves is recommend, as we feel that malignant tumor, or even if benign tumor showed a great chance of multiplcity.
3) Possible malignant change of benign adenoma is controversial, howeverm we found 3cases of thyroid adenoma with partial malignant change. This finding remind us thyroid adenoma. Should be removed with wide margin rather than to extirpate it.
4) Sex difference in benignadenoma wast 5 to 1 contrast to 2:1 in malignant tumor.
This result is rather suspicious to us.
5) Suddenly, growing giant nodular goiter is often due to intracystic hemorrhage, such result might mislead us to suspect malignancy. The treatment should be careful or reasonable not to go too radical operation on such patient.
6) Most of the benign and malignant tumor are eiher euthyroid or hypothyroid condition and hyperthyroidism is tather exceptional.
